How Long Does a Personalized Book Take? Step by Step
In short: A printed Fablewish book usually arrives in about 2–3 weeks (12–15 business days) after you order, with free shipping within the US. The cover preview is free and usually ready in under a minute; the inside pages are illustrated after you order; then our US print partner prints and ships the book. The e-book ($12.99) needs no shipping and is sent by email as a download link. For Christmas, we recommend ordering printed books by November 30.
Step by step: from photo to doorstep
| Step | How long | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Cover preview | Usually under a minute | You upload one photo and see your child on the cover – free, before you pay |
| 2. Illustration | After your order | Every page is illustrated with your child; we check each page |
| 3. Printing | A few business days | Our US print partner prints and binds the book |
| 4. Shipping | Standard US mail | Free shipping; you get a tracking link by email |
| Total | About 2–3 weeks | 12–15 business days from your order – estimates, not guarantees |
Why does it take longer than a normal book?
A regular book sits in a warehouse. A personalized book doesn't exist until you order it: it's illustrated for your child, checked, printed as a single copy and then shipped. That's also why personalized books are final sale – there's no other child the book could go to.
Need it faster?
- Choose the e-book ($12.99). No shipping – sent by email as a download link once it's illustrated. We don't promise a time for the e-book, but it skips printing and mail entirely.
- Add the e-book to a printed book ($7.99 in the cart) – read now, keep the hardcover later.
- Order early for holidays. For Christmas: by November 30. See our Christmas order deadlines.
We currently offer free standard shipping within the US only – no express option.
