How Are Personalized Books Made? From Photo to Printed Book
In short: A Fablewish book is made in four steps: we write the story (the same adventure for every child), you upload one photo and see a free cover preview, after you order every page is illustrated with your child using AI-assisted tools and checked by a person, and then our US print partner prints and ships the book. The whole thing usually takes about 2–3 weeks; the e-book needs no shipping.
Step 1: The story – written by us
Each of our three stories was written for a real moment in a child's life: tasting new foods (The Empty Soup), being brave in the dark (Lights Up the Night), growing something with Grandma (The Very Big Carrot). The story doesn't change from child to child – the hero does.
Step 2: Your photo and the free cover preview
You upload one clear photo of your child's face, enter their name and eye color, and add a dedication if you like. Usually in under a minute you see your child on the cover – before you pay. You can look at other cover options or try another photo.
Step 3: The illustrations – AI-assisted, checked by people
After you order, your child is illustrated into every page of the story, in the style of the book, with the help of AI-assisted tools. A person checks every page before printing. Small differences from the photo – hairstyle, clothing – are part of the artistic interpretation. Your photo is used only for this and deleted automatically afterwards (30 days without an order, 60 days after shipping).
Step 4: Printing and shipping
Our US print partner prints the book as a single copy – paperback or hardcover – and ships it to your door with free standard shipping within the US. You get a tracking link by email. Printed books usually arrive in about 2–3 weeks (12–15 business days). The e-book is a PDF sent by email as a download link.
